Not only can it not open INDD files (only IDML, with varying degrees of success), but a lot of the UI reminded me more of Quark than InDesign, and I hated Quark. With Affinity, that started and stopped with Publisher. I don't want to spend months relearning how to do things I already knew how to do, especially if in the end there is no real gain for me. So aside from motivation, what it hinges on for me is whether I can fully replicate my workflow and needs, and with minimal or no hassle or wasted time. $30/mo is easy and I get use out of it for personal/family stuff, and in terms of a day job, my employer pays for that license anyway. I don't even do much paid freelance work (some years none). I don't have any bias or issue against Adobe, which tends to be the driving force behind people leaving, there's no emotional component for me, and even the cost is fine, I just get it on sale or retentions pricing. Should have just been a new design from the ground up. I knew the founders - so I tried to work with the illustrator files they’d been given. I’m thinking of a very specific example ~ a tech company had 2x iterations of a complex platform diagram from 2x different designers, they hated both.

Join our Discord server Design Subreddits LISTġ) There is a lot of free templates/resources out there, mostly Adobe files… I have built a lot of templates from scratch (literally responding this this I just realised I should make my templates freely available to others 🙃 I’ll get on to that)Ģ) I learn a lot from other designers sharing content on social media, sometimes they do something cool and I’m like “yes, legend” … most designers use Adobe so sometimes it takes time to find the right tutorial / content to teach me what I want to know in Affinity✌🏻ģ) I’ve learned to say ‘No’ to “uplifting” any clients existing collateral.
